JOB SUMMARY: Core responsibilites include: 

The Campus Safety student worker is a part-time, non-benefitted position that maintains safety and security of people and property on the college campus.  They will patrol (on foot or by vehicle) the campus, buildings, and parking lots; they will provide escorts for visitors, students, and employees; they will watch for emergency situations, suspicious activity, and campus policy and procedure violations; and they will prepare reports and logs.  This position will mainly work under the full-time position, but may have shifts where they are the only one working.

Compensation: $13.33/hour.

Screening Date: Open until filled.

Start Date: As soon after screening as practical.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: this position is Non-Exempt, i.e., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.

• Ensure a safe and secure campus by monitoring the campus and parking lots for suspicious activity, safety hazards, and campus policy and procedure violations.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and healthy campus environment by responding promptly to incidents, offering assistance and intervention when necessary to maintain peace and order; and securing and opening the campus for the beginning and ending of the day.
• Foster a unified approach to campus safety by maintaining clear and effective communication with campus safety team members, supervisors, and coordinating closely with law enforcement or other emergency responders to facilitate swift responses to incidents and promote collaborative problem-solving.
• Support accountability and continuous improvement efforts within the organization by documenting activities by providing accurate record-keeping and routine reports and investigating safety incidents.
• Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
• There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
• An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• The ability to perform a task using the hands, finger, and arms with skill and ease.
• Location where duties are performed: Patrolling inside and outside of buildings and classrooms.  Exposure to extreme weather, temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:   

• Need to be enrolled in an academic program and taking classes at Laramie County Community College.

Preferred Qualifications:   

• Enrolled in the Associates degree in Criminal Justice program.
