Job Summary: 

Core responsibilities of this position include: The Laboratory Assistant, Sonography, is responsible for supporting the overall setup, maintenance, and operation of LCCC’s Ultrasound Laboratory and medical equipment. This position will be required to assist the instructor in providing training and laboratory sessions to students through topics such as scanning protocols, technical factors, patient care, equipment operation, and other topics as assigned.

 

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

 

Starting Date: As soon after hiring process as practical.

 

Compensation: $33.39/hr.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: – this position non-exempt and is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).

  • Enhance student learning in the laboratory setting by assisting with both strengthening existing scanning skills and teaching new skill sets relevant to the field.
  • Support faculty teaching in the classroom and laboratory settings through the application of common protocols, terminology and sonography knowledge and skills.
  • Improve operational efficiency and student readiness by educating students on proper cleaning practices and restaging the bays for the next sonographer.
  • Maintain a safe and functional learning environment by promptly reporting equipment damage, tool issues, or safety concerns to program faculty.

Physical/Mental Demands: 

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to

  • Maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of all employees, students, and donors
  • Ability to work in a medical setting with potential exposure to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens; Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures must be utilized as required
  • Manipulate instruments, supplies, and equipment with speed, dexterity, and exceptional hand-eye coordination
  • Comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • A variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed. (NOTE: Keep this statement: right now it might not be required, but you may need this; and this person may also be able to assist you with your Open Houses like the one you had in October.)
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • Frequently required to move around the assigned work areas
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, kneeling and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions. For lifts exceeding 50lbs, a team lift technique is required
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in an Allied Health Discipline.
  • Formal sonography training from a CAAHEP-accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Active ARDMS certification in either Abdomen, Vascular, Adult Echo, or OB/GYN
  • Active ARRT (S) (VS), RCS, and/or RVS
  • 6-months of recent clinical sonography experience.

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor degree from a regionally accredited institution in an Allied Health Discipline.
  • Active ARDMS certifications in Abdomen, Vascular, Adult Echo, AND OB/GYN
  • Clinical training with sonography students.
