JOB SUMMARY

The Campus Safety Officer Part Time position for LCCC is a part-time, non-benefited, position that maintains safety and security of people and property on the College campus by assisting people in need and patrolling areas. The campus safety officer is expected to build positive relationships with the campus community and the public, so must be willing to work closely with the public in a friendly, non-confrontation manner. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate a positive attitude and sense of service to the community. 

 

Campus Safety provides services 24 hours per day, 365 days a year, on the Cheyenne campus to assist the campus community as needed, provide emergency first aid care, monitor public safety and provide limited emergency vehicle assistance. Officers work with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Department regarding any criminal activity that may occur on campus.

 

Shift Times: Primary shift coverage will be for weekends 8:00am to 4:00pm, 4:00pm to 12:00am, 12:00am to 8:00am. However, coverage may be needed on any day and longer or shorter shifts may be scheduled to accommodate LCCC’s needs and the individual’s availability.

 

Compensation: $22.09/hour.

 

Screening Date: Open until filled.

 

Start Date: As soon after screening as practical.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: this position is Non-Exempt, i.e., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.

  • Ensure a safe and secure campus environment through collaboration with other campus safety officers and the Director of Residential Living and Learning by providing direct security services.

  • Provide escorts and public assistance.
  • Proactively monitors for and addresses security breaches, facility hazards, and unauthorized persons.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders as necessary
  • Maintain campus security through regular patrols and facility checks.
  • Safeguarding campus property
  • Enforce campus policies
  • Document activities through routine reports
  • Engage with and contribute to the overall welfare and safety of the campus community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Associate's degree OR Two years of experience in law enforcement, customer service, or security role working in a diverse, multicultural community.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider.
  • Basic First aid/CPR/AED/Blood Borne Pathogens certifications or ability to obtain certifications within the first two months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 years of experience in a law enforcement, or customer service, or security role working in a diverse, multicultural community.

If you are selected for the position, your appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. LCCC reserves the right to end this employment agreement should the results of your background investigation not be successful.
