Job Summary:  Core responsibilities of this position include:

This position is for research assistance for ongoing projects as needed as part of the larger LCCC Undergraduate Research Program. Projects will vary in timing and topic.

 

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

 

Start Date: As soon as practical after offer is made.

 

Compensation: $15.03 per hour.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: – this position is Non-Exempt/Exempt, i.e., is/is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

  • Conducts all experiments and field observations using currently accepted techniques including safe use of research organisms, chemicals and equipment both in the lab and in the field.
  • Communicates the results of experiments both in writing and orally as appropriate to peers, supervisors, and the scientific community.
  • Is present for all meetings and completes work in established deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of introductory levels of content in a natural science field (biology, chemistry, physics) including understanding of the scientific method and application to unexplored questions.
  • Ability to find and evaluate primary scientific literature to ascertain previous work and background on the projects.
  • Ability to maintain organizational scheme and manage large amounts of data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both writing and speaking.
  • Ability to follow and develop (as necessary) procedures for lab and field activities.

Physical/Mental Demands: 

  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, medical codes, or alarms).
  • Entering text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a traditional keyboard.
  • Remaining in a seated position for extended periods of time.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting novel research and project responsibility including collaborative activities as well as professional communication of the results.
  • Previous involvement in LCCC research group.
