This is a part-time position. Teaching hours will be variable.

Job Summary:

 

The HVAC/R Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for teaching courses such as piping principles, tool usage, and introduction courses for heating and cooling fundamentals, as well as advanced courses such as residential air conditioning and light commercial refrigeration and other related duties such as planning, assessing student learning and records management. This position requires the instructor to work with other faculty members and when appropriate, attend advisory committee meetings and participate in development of curriculum.  HVAC/R classes are held during evenings and potentially online if necessary.

 

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

 

Priority Screening Date: Open until filled. 

 

Start Date: As soon as practical after the screening and interview process. 

 

Compensation: $33.39/hr. 

 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: 

  • Provide Related Instruction for HVAC/R apprentices
  • Prepare for HVAC/R classes
  • Document attendance and grades of each apprentice
  • Provide list of necessary classroom supplies and tools to Program Manager

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop, organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Ability to instruct on the uses of equipment, machines and wiring to meet manufactures guidelines and code specifications.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of relevant code requirements.
  • Read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.
  • Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
  • Present oneself in a classroom, lab setting, or online in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interact effectively with community agencies and businesses.

• An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions.

• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

• An employee must be able to mentally track multiple assignments/projects.

• Ability to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately when others express opinions, exhibit strong emotions and other difficult situations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • High School, GED, or equivalent
  • Journeymen Level License and the ability to obtain NCCER Certification for teaching the HVAC/R trade.
  • Two (2) years of progressive work experience with acquired knowledge at the level of a Vocational Trainer

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Associates degree in HVAC/R or related field of study from regionally accredited Institution.
  • EPA certified universal refrigerant handling license.
  • Three or more years of training, supervision and/or instructor experience
